A RELIC OF 1870.
Some labourers, while clearing awaj? undergrowth at Boulou, near Perpignan, found concealed in the trunk of a tree a bottle containing a list of jewels belonging to the Empress Eugenie. The list, which is dated September 4, 1870, the day of the fall of the Second Empire, is accompanied by instructfons addressed to M. Manuel Perez to deliver the jewels enumerated to the Empress’s mother in Madrid. It is written upon official paper bearing the Imperial Eagle, and is sealed with tile Chancellor's seal. The Signature is illegible. Among the jewels specified is a pearl necklace given to the Empress by the Tsar and valued at 600,!)00f. The total value, is given ns 6,650,000 f.
