CHEMISTRY CONFERENCE
APPOINTMENT OF OFFICERS. Members of the Institute of Chemistry of Great Britain and Ireland (New Zealand section) assembled in Pamierston North for the annual meeting last night. Fellows and associates in attendance were drawn from various quarters of the Dominion, the following • centres being represented :—Auckland Mr F. H. V. Fielder; Christchurch, .Mr E. W. Hullett; Wanganui, Mr W. 11. Mummery, F.1.C.; Wellington, Drs. I. J. Cunningham, and G. M. Moil*, Messrs W. 'Donovan, F.1.C., X. A. Glendinning, F.1.C., W. A. Joiner, G. A. Lawrence F.I.C. and A. t>. Monro; Palmerston North, Drs. F. H. McDowell, H. It. Whitehead, It. M. Dolby and Mr L. A. Whelan. The election of officers for the ensuing year resulted: —Chairman, Mr W. Donovan; lion, secretary, Mr G. A. Lawrence; lion, auditor, Mr T. A. Glendinning; committee, Messrs F. H. V. Fielder, E. W. Hullett, W. It. Mummery and A. D. Monro, Professor H. J. Inglis (Dunedin) and Dr. I. J. Cunningham. TO-DAY’S PROGRAMME.
This morning the delegates assembled at Massey College where a series of five short papers were given, the subject titles and the lecturers being: “Determination of Particle Size of Lead Arsenate Sprays,” Mr P. J. Clark; “The Calcium and Phosphorous Metabolism of Sheep,” Dr 1. J. Cunningham ; “Chlorination of Wool for Control of Shrinkage,” Mr G. A. Lawrence, F.1.C.; “Gases in Cheese,” Dr. F. H. McDowall; “The Biochemistry of Discolouration in Cheese,” Dr. G. M. Moir. A discussion ensued at the conclusion of each paper, while at tho termination of the session a visit of inspection of the college buildings and the farm property was made prior to the partaking of luncheon at the college refectory. In the afternoon the inspection was carried further, but activities were concluded in time to permit of those southward bound to connect with their trains.
