COLLISION AT CROSSING.

MOTOR CAR OVERTURNED. WELLINGTON, Jan. 25. Colliding with the Napier express, a sedan car overturned at the Ohau crossing this afternoon, imprisoning its occupants, two women and four children. The driver of the car was Mrs Wallace D’Ath, the wife of an Otaki farmer, a.nd the others in the party, which was bound for the Levin Show, were Mrs O’Rourke, mother of Mrs D’Ath, three children of Mrs D’Ath, and a daughter of Mrs Walker, of Plimmerfion. Mrs ■ O’Rourke had her left ankle fractured. The others received cuts and abrasions, and are also suffering from shock. The car, a four-door sedan, was on the crossing just south of the Ohau station when it was struck by the downward Napier express, and was extensively damaged. The accident occurred at 2.13 p.m. The driver of the train immediately stopped and the passengers descended and extricated the injured occupants. After a delay of about ten minutes the motorists were put aboard the train and taken to Otaki, after which they were conveyed to a private hospital.

VICTIMS OUT OF DANGER. Per Press Association. LEVIN, Jan. 26. The condition of the victims of the crossing smash at Ohau yesterday showed an improvement this morning and they are out of danger. Mrs Wallace D’Ath is recovering from shock. Mrs O’Rourke was most seriously injured, her ankle being broken. All had a miraculous escape from death.

Mrs D’Ath, who was driving, saw the train when approaching the crossing at Gho.u. She applied the brakes, but they failed to act. The train struck the car with a heavy impact and crushed in one side and capsized it.
