BOWLING

TARANAKI TOURNEY OPENS. The Taranaki Bowling Centre’s 28tli annual tournament commenced at New Plymouth on Monday with 56 rinks competing. A number of alterations have been made in the conditions this year. Instead of playing two games of 25 heads each day in the section, three games, each of 21 heads, are being played, with a time limit of three hours for each of the first two games. Following the conclusion of section play last night, the two-life system is being applied to all rinks entering post-section play, which started this morning. Both the Terrace End and Feilding Clubs are represented and in the first round Terrace End (Munro, Northover, Snell, O'Shea, slci])) 20 beat New Plymouth (Pnpps, Hill, Hooker, Higgs, skip) 19 and Feilding (Way, Chadwick, Moore. Wenham, skip) 17 lost to Paritutu (Roberts, Gibson, Andrews, Wallis, skip) 21. In the second round Terrace End beat L. B. Davies (Stratford), 2S — 19 and in the third beat T. Williams (Fitzroy) 27 —22. In the second round Feilding beat W. H. Noswortliy (Waitara), 22—15 and in the third round lost to V. Boulton (Cambridge), 11 —20. The fourth round play saw Terrace End lose to J. Buchan (Te Aroba) 13 —27, and Feilding lose to A. C. Smith (Park). 12—25. J. Lobb (West End), J. W. Harrison (Eltham) and R. Boulton (West End) were the only unbeaten skips.
