MEETING OF MORTGAGEES.
ASSOCIATION IN CANTERBURY. Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, Jan. 25. The Canterbury branch of the New Zealand Mortgagees’ Protection A'-so-ciation was formed to-day. A constitution was adopted and officers were elected. It was agreed to telegraph to the Priine Minister emphatically protesting against further cuts in mortgagees’ interest or the contraction of mortgagees’ rielits. Other motions carried were that mortgagees be represented on mortgagors’ adjustment commissions; that , it was common ground that the drastic | legislation of the last few months was | having a serious effect on the financial | recovery of tlie country; that investors i not only were finding that their rights |in respect of existing contracts had boon ruthlessly cut, but were afraid to cuter into new ones for fear that similar or even more drastic legislation might he passed in the future, and the results was that the flow of money for securities had definitely stopped.
