NAPIER HARBOUR.

DEEP WATER SCHEME ADOPTED. Per Press Association. NAPIER, Dec. 20. The Napier Harbour Board lias adopted proposals for tho execution of the scheme outlined by Mr F. W. Furkert and Mr D. Holderness for the development of a deep sea harbour at tho breakwater. The scheme provides for the expenditure of £406,700, £71,000 of which is to be secured immediately. Of the latter amount £II,OOO is to he used for the maintenance of the inner harbour until such time as the breakwater can accommodate lighters and other small craft.

The execution of the scheme is to bo spread over four and a-half years and the interest and sinking funds are to be met by imposing an extra shilling per ton on all cargo during that period. It is estimated that the work will provide constant employment for 200 men for three years. Full award mages are to be paid. The work will be done by contract with, it is expected, assistance by way of an Unemployment Board subsidy.
