The Bulls mentor, A. E. Neale, won tho two open sprint events at Wuipa on Saturday with All Humbug. Bon Kitpide was sent out favourite for the Waipa Plato on Saturday, but was beaten into third place. Broken Rule, another of A. li. Neale’s team, ran unplaced in tho hack cup. Tho four-year-old black gelding Childstridge, a half-brother by Psychology to Royal Parade, has been sold by Mr R. McKenzie, of Waipawa, to a West Australian sportsman. Ho has already left for his new homo.

For some tinio reports in regard to racing in Melbourne have spoken of its prosperity. Confirmation is supplied by the policy of the Victoria Racing Club, which has commenced to raise stakes again by giving increased prizo money for its annual meeting at Flcmington on New Year's Day. The possession of a few good horses docs not make any owner a “good sportsman,” comments a sporting writer. It often means ho is a lucky man. It takes a run of “outs” to prove how far tho sportsmanlike qualities of some men go. B. Rosen, the Australian jockey, who has met with such great success in England and Franco, won another big race in Paris toward tho end of October —the Handicap H’Octobre, at Longehamps, on Honour Bound. The event, run over a milo and live furlongs, was worth 40,000 francs.

Splutter, who was taken to Australia with Peter Jackson and Gaine G'arrington, and left with D. H. McLeod, owner of Araunnh, in Melbourne, was decisively beaten it. a race at Ballarat a couple of weeks back, nnd, according to one critic, is unlikely to soar high as a racenorse. I. Tucker, the former New Zealand rider, who has done well in the saddle sinco his arrival in Melbourne, received a broken collarbone when Manlius fell with him at Mentone on December 5. Manlius set out to jump with Dark Dawn, Gnaro, Comic Prince and Salonia, but he fell at the third hurdle.

Tho Arrowemith —Precious four-yoar-old Idoliso, who had three outings as a two-year-old and one at three years without boing placed, won two events at the Banks Peninsula meeting on Saturday. As she ranked seventh favourite at her first appearance and tenth at the second, hor supporters received a substantial dividend on each occasion.

Teels, winner of tho To Awamutu Cup on Saturday, claims an engagement in tho Auckland Cup wherein she figures on the minimum. She was in receipt of 131bs from Gold Trial at Waipa, but they are both on tho minimum at Ellerslie —that is, provided Teels is not rehandicapped. Interest will attach to Vaklarado when he makes his first appearance in public, as he has been showing good track form at Trcntliam, where he is held in high esteem. He is a two-year-old by Silverado front Valerie, a sister to Rercmoana, by Hallowmas from Bonny Portland. Frimsel, tho name of tho filly sold by Mr J. J. Corry to an Australian owner, is the Hebrew word for a soup made out of a dough by the Polish Jews. Iho filly is from Rebekah’s daughter, Rachel, the dam also of Rabbi and Kozan (phonetic spelling of Chosan, a young man who is courting). The report ’front Australia n few days ago that Gaine Carrington had suffered a serious injury to one of his feet was grossly exaggerated, as according to latest advice ho was at the track two mornings after his return from Bacchus March, where the mishap was supposed to have occurred. Of tho three placed horses in the Manawatu Cup of twelve months ago, Arrow I.ad (winner) and Spearful (third) again figure in this year's field. Lady Pam, tho runner-up, is now in Australia. Arrow I.ad’s weight for Boxing Day this year has been advanced 7lbs, whereas Spearful has dropped 31bs. Peculiarly enough, S. Anderson, who rode Arrow Lad to victory on that occasion, will be associated with Spearful next Monday. Time brings with it many changes in the racing world, although some hardy veterans appear to be always with us. A glance through the placed horses at the Manawatu meeting last Christmas finds many an absentee from this year’s Holds. Arrowhead, the winner of the Tokomaru Hurdles, is now defunct; Barbaoan, winner of the Maiden Plate, has been withdrawn from the game, while the runner-up on that occasion, In Vain, is still onn the inactive list. Childstudy and Manawatu, first and second in tho Tararua Hack Handicap, are likewise among tho bsentees from the game at present. Among the placed horses who will bo again competing arc Arrow I.ad, Spearful, Tigerism, High Falutin’. Autopay, Ruanui, Arajcan, Solitaire 11., etc.

RECORDS AGAINST THEM. Since the Auckland Cup was first instituted in 1874, three-year-olds have been successful on only five occasions, and it is 36 years since ono of that age proved equal to winning the big two-mile handicap. The most prominent three-year-old to contest this event in recent years was Ballymena, who failed to finish in a place in 1923 with 7.6 on Ills back. As this horse had previously won tho A.JJJL Derby at Randwick bis credentials were first-class, and considerably better than any of tlio same age engaged in this year’s Cup. It is. therefore, obvious that any thrce-year-old must be of outstanding ability to succeed in the Auckland Cup, In the coming contest Gold Trail and Tout le Mond are useful gallopers, but it is extremely doubtful if either of them is up to the standard required to win at Ellerslie. IN THE OLD DAYS. Thero was a time when what is now known as the Wairarapa Trotting Club was tlio South Wairarapa Hospital Benefit Trotting Club, and tho profits of this club bellied largely to maintain the Grcytown Hospital. In 1899 the club banded over £75 of its profits of £75 5s lid, to the hospital management for the erection of an operating ward, which meant, with the Government subsidy, a donation of £165 to the funds of tlio institution. It is interesting to note that at tho 1899 mooting the- totalisator tax was only £9 11s sd. The club paid out £l3O in stakes and received £125 hv way of nominations and acceptances. The ’ sale of privileges brought in £26 10s. while the gate takings amounted to £SB 18s.

CANTERBURY DISQUALIFICATION.

OWNER, TRAINER, HORSE. A meeting of the Canterbury District Committee was held on Saturday. Tho committee inquired into the payment of training fees of the horse Nightform by J. Vulela to S. Trilford and found that that payment was prima facie evidence that Vii'leta was interested in the horse. The committee therefore disqualified the owner of the horse, C. M. O’Connor, the trainer, S. Trilford, and tho liorse for twelve month*. . . The committee also considered an incident which occurred at tho meeting of tho Yshburton County Racing Club on December 3 and found' M. F. Corliss, owner of Wise Choice, guilty of improper behaviour toward an official of the club and fined him £5.
