Mr A. T. Wells, receiver of the Mental Hospitals Department, Wellington, is in Palmerston North on departmental business. Continued improvement is being shown in the condition of SquadronLeader M. C. McGregor, the victim of. the recent aeroplane accident at Milson.
Mr Walter Monk, who has been associated in a managerial capacity for many years with J. C. Williamson companies, has accepted the management of the Civic Theatre, Invercargill, which will bo reopened on December 17. Mr A. Leslie, M.R.C.V.S., a veterinarian of Lincoln College, has been awarded the diploma of Fellow of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons, London, for a thesis on research into the diseases of sheep in Canterbury. Dr. Raymond Eirtli, formerly of New Zealand, arrived by the Aorangi from Sydney this week. He will spend a week with his family in Auckland before leaving for England to take up an appointment as lecturer in social anthropology at tho London School or Economics.
Mr Geoffrey AV. Deal, whose death was reported in a message from Ashburton yesterday, was a brother of Mr W. P. Deal, of Weraroa Road, Levin. Tho late Mr Geoffrey Deal had been farming for many years in the Ashburton district and formerly at oetton, in North Canterbury. Mr C. E. AVhalley, headmaster of the Mosstown (Wanganui) School, tendered his resignation after 34 years of service to the Wanganui Education Board yesterday. Mr Whalley is a brother of'Mr It. H. Wha ley, of Palmerston North, and is well-known in this district. The resignation was received by the board with regret and it was decided to send a letter of appreciation to Mr Whalley for his long and faithful service. __
