EXTRACTS FROM “STANDARD.” DECEMBER 15, 1902. In Palmerston North the building trades were reported to be progressing, the boot trade as good as the previous month, the clothing trade working at full pressure, the retail trade very good and saddlers and eoachbuilders working full-time. There w-ere very few men out of employment and there were no swagmen on the road. The Polo Club had a very successful opening of the season at the Hokowhitu grounds, where 14 competitors attended. The Farmers’ Dairy Union butter factory w-as producing between three and a-ltalf and four tons of butter daily. A requisition to the Terrace End School Committee to form an expupils’ association had been very largely signed, it was reported. Petitions in favour of the retention of the totalisator were being largely signed at the Woodville, Feeding and Manawatu Racing Clubs.
