RACING NEWS

FROM STABLE_AND COURSE. (By “Binocular.”) K. Voitre will rule Red Sun in the Te Awamutu Cup on Saturday. Huntingdon, who has had a slight attack of bleeding of late, has been turned out for a six weeks* spell. The Auckland Cup candidate Antique is reported to be doing well in her work, and is getting over long distances very satisfactorily. Gay Crusader, winner of the Two Thousand Guineas, Derby and St. Leger in 1917, was destroyed recently at the age of 19 years. A two-year-old filly by The Ace from Flagship has had- the name of Nora Lee claimed for her. She is a half-sister to Nancy Lee, winner of the Railway Handicap in 1928. Joie do Val is stated to have improved as a result of her outings at Levin and Feilding. She will contest the Manawatu Cup in which she will be ridden by W. J. Broughton. The new owner of Gaine Carrington has been unfortunate in his purchase. for while running out in the paddock his new representative had one-half of a hoof torn off. It will take at least five months for the injured limb to heal. Tho two-vear-old filly Prestige won a race at Rosehill recently, according to advice received by her owner, Mr John Donald, of Westmere. Prestige is by Limond from Homage, being thus a sister to Honour.

The Polydamon gelding Matu died in the south last Friday. Without winning any outstanding distinction, he had proved capable of winning over hurdles and steeplechase fences in both islands. D. Cotton will do the riding for Sir Charles Clifford at Manawatu and Wairarapa. It is anticipated that A. E. Ellis, who has been on the injured list for some time past, will be able to ride Fast Passage and Cricket Bat at^Auckland. The imported four-year-old horse Irish Dancer (Allenbv —Bright Heckle), who created such a good impression when he won the Jockey Club Handicap at R<iccarton, is reported to be working well at Wingatui and his next appearance will be awaited with interest. Punchestown, Mr J. 11. Grigg has decided, is to race no more on the flat, but will be prepared for next season’s steeplechases. Beinc by Thurnham, from the dam of Charlatan, Punchestown should not fail at- his fences, and he has more pace than the average ’chaser. The Tasmanian Guineas was won by a black colt, Iliglibroney, by the Gainsborough horse High Art from Lahinch. a New Zealand-bred mare by Kilbroney from Vanna, by Charlemagne II from Savannah. by Stepniak, Ilighbronev was bred by Mr P. Miller, New South Wales, and sold by him as a yearling in Sydney for 50 guineas. The Musketoon —Rolshsay two-year-old in A. E. Cox’s stable is developing nicely, states “Whalebone.” He is much the same tvi>e as Mungatoon, but is built on bigger lines, and should be a rare weight-carrier. Don’t Lap bears evidence of having done a fair amount of work before being recommissioned a fortnight ago, and is coming to hand quickly. Just at present he is inclined to “climb,” but should soon get over that. The sale was effected last week of another member of Mr J. J. Corry’s team. This was the unraccd two-year-old Frimsel, a brown filly by Grand Knight from the Kilbroney mare Rachel, the dam also of Rabbi and Kozan. Frimsel’s purchaser was Mr W. J. Corry, of Sydney, and she was shipped for her new home last Friday.

Since racing at the Takapuna meeting Tarporley has been doing plenty of solid pace work on the tan track and is standing up to it in good style, states the Auckland Star. Fie is one of the fittest horses in work at Ellerslie at the present time, and if he trains on as at present is sure to win more money before the summer meetings are over. Tarporley has been entered for hack events at the Auck-

llneo*l,,o’. a nd on recent form ho should get his share of stake-money in that class. SILVER SCORN’S SALE. CHANGE OF OWNERSHIP. Silver Scorn, who will be taken north by her former owner and present trainer, G. Murray Aynsley, to-morrow, to compete at the Auckland summer meeting, will race at Ellerslie in the colours of the Rand wick trainer, F. T. Cush, on behalf of whom, it is revealed, a notification of change of ownership will be made this week.' -Much mystery has been allowed to surround tho sale of the unbeaten filly, a?id it is liy no means clear yet why the original announcements should have been at first so stoutly denied. The change of ownership is to Cush himself, so apparently he has not been acting on behalf of any patron. Mr Murray Aynsley has during the last week disposed of another of his loam, this being the five-year-old Paladin mare. lCakara, who will next race at Waikouoiti and Oamaru in the colours of Mr G. J. Barton, of Dunedin. CURTAILING DOPING. Discussing the subject of doping, the Paris contributor to the Horse and Ilound says that in France tho stewards are very active with regard to it, and a certain number of selected animals go through the “dope box” every day. There is no discrimination. all classes having to submit to tile test. At Deauville this year Colonel William Littauer’s Semblefigue, a three-year-old daughter of Alcantara 11., ran a deud heat in a mile handicap with Prior. The result of an analysis, a test taken on the spot by the veterinarian surgeons, was that the filly was proved to have been given a quinine stimulant. Diggle, her trainer, after an exhaustive inquiry, was exonerated of having had anything to do with the administration of the stimulant in question, but, as was only natural, he was held to he responsible for his charge as trainer, and was fined 2000 francs, while the filly was disqualified. The owner was not brought into the question at all.

WORK AT WOODVILLE. CANDIDATES FOR AUCKLAND. A number of candidates for the holiday fixtures were worked at Woodville yesterday morning. With tho treaties some 30ft out and the sting out of the ground, the times were not fast. Royal Routine (Reid) and La Poupee (Monk) ran six furlongs in 1.19. the former holding the advantage at the finish. There was no sign of lameness when Royal Routine pulled up. Jayson watt sent over a mile and a distance, the last mile taking 1.49. He will be ridden by H. Ditlieu in the hurdles at Auckland. Arajean acted as pacemaker and ran the first three furlongs in 41sec and the half mile in 54soc. Arajean retained her advantage to the close, running the full distance in 1.48 2-seec. Gold Trail, who is an indifferent track worker, left for Kllorslie to-day. Lack slipped over five furlongs in 1.4 2-5, the initial furlong being left behind in 13 see arid two in 25 2-sscc.
