FITZHERBERT EAST.

• (From Our Own Correspondent.) FITZHERB'ERT, Doe. 13. A meeting of the Fitzherbert East School Committee was held on Friday evening. Mr Lankehear presided and others present included Messrs Woods, A. K." Groves," N. Chowen and Mrs W. F. Field (secretary). Correspondence was received from the secretary of the Schools’ Oommittoes’ Association inviting nominations for an executive representing the committees. As the corn-, mittce has not joined up with the School Committees’ Association, it was decided to take no action. The committee decided fo hold swimming sports after the summer vacation when all children on the roll this year will bo eligible to compete. The annual school picnic will also be Feld after the reopening of the school, but the prizegiving will take place next Thursday evening when the Women’s Institute is entertaining the children of the district at a Christmas tree party. A resolution was passed authorising the purchase of now wire netting to ropair that round the tennis courts, and a public working bee is to bo arranged at the earliest possiblo date to carry out the repair work as in its present state the netting round the courts is practically useless. The chairman and secretary notified their intention of being present at a meeting of the Tennis Club when the wishes of the club will be ascertained. There was a good attendance of members of the Aokautere Tennis Chib. The president, Mr W. Anderson, occupied the chair. The resignation of the secretary, Mrs J. C. Riddlo, was accepted with regret. Mr Anderson voiced the appreciation of the club for the services rendered by Mrs Riddle in her capacity as secretary and said that during her association with the club she had been a keen tennis enthusiast and a good sport. On behalf of the club, ho wished her every happiness in her new place of residence in Palmerston North. Miss Nancy Field was elected secretary in Mrs Riddle’s place. Mr A. Hopcroft, the olub captain, reported having a ladder in readiness. All financial members will havo their names put on the ladder, and it will bo permissible to challenge two ahead, the challenge to be accepted within one week of being issued, otherwiso forfeited. Tho Tennis Club agreed to co-operate with tho school committee in forming a working bee to repair the netting round the courts.
