VALUELESS CHEQUES.

MAN SENT TO GAOL. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Dec. 14. Cyril Thomas Millar, aged 23, was sentenced by Mr E. Pago, S.M., to six months’ gaol for fraudulently obtaining money by means of valueless cheques. The cheques were uttered by an acquaintance, recently discharged from prison. The men hired a car for the purpose of leaving Wellington, but they ran into a pole at Porirua. Accused injured his head and his companion was arrested and, after appearing in Court, was sent to a mental hospital.

Counsel for accused said that there appeared to be very little to bo said in his favour, but there seemed to be some truth that his downfall was due to the fact that he had got in touch with the man sent to the mental hospital.
