CHARGE OF TREASON.
GERMAN EX-SOLDIER ON TRIAL. ATTACK ON YPRES RECALLED. ALLEGATION OF BETRAYAL. (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph.—-Copyright.) (Times Cable.) Received December 6, 8.35 a.m. LONDON, Dec. o. The Berlin correspondent of the Times states that, 19 years after the first German ga» attack on Ypres, Jager, a German ex-soldier, is now oil trial for treason at Leipzig for betraying an attack on tho enemy.
Tho evidence is based on an article by General Ferry, the French commander of the sector, published in 1930, in which it is alleged that Jager gave tile position of tho gas batteries, and which accused French generals of failure to protect their troops. A representative of the Reichswehr in the Ministry is pressing for Jagcr’s conviction and insists that the French took measures to reduce their losses, also mitigating the effect of tho attack. Jager denies desertion and betrayal. He claims that he strayed into the enemy’s trench and that the French deduced the imminence of an attack from the wadding pad that ho carried as part of his equipment.
