ANOTHER FAST

COMMENCED BY GANDHI. SUSPENSION"AFTER TWO DAYS. SYMPATHY WITH FELLOW PRISONER. (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) Received December 6, 10.30 a.m. CALCUTTA, Dec.- 5.

The fast which Gandhi began in gaol on Saturday was suspended on Monday’.

Gandhi decided to cease eating because Patiwardhan, who is a political prisoner, had put himself to the lowest diet consistent with bare existence because he was not allowed out of prison to assist in the campaign' on behalf of the Untouchables.

Gandhi stated that the question arose as to whether he would allow his dear comrade to die while he lived comfortably or, in an attempt to save the life of his comrade, ho should put his own in peril. As usual, Gandhi got his own way and the Inspector-General of Prisons is now conferring with the Government regarding the releaso of Patiwardhan. On the replv depends the question of whether Gandhi will or will not resume his fast.
