YESTERDAY'S BUSINESS AND PRICES. No improvement was shown in the tone of the stock and share market yesterday. There was a weak and hesilant inquiry from invoslors who showed very little interest in any section, but there were numerous sellers. Government securities wero a very dull market. There were again inquiries for the 5£ per cents., 1937, at £97. Sellers of 4i per cents, eased their price to £94, and a sale of the 1938 bonds was mado in Christchurch at £93 10s. Local body debentures were right out of favour. The only bids in the banks section were 41s 6d, cum. dividend, for New Zealands, sellers asking 435, and £lO ss, ex dividend, for National of Australasia, £lO paid, an easing of 2s 6d on Saturday's price. In the other sections of the market there wore few recorded bids. New Zealand Breweries were unchanged at 255, cum. dividend, but Staples eased to 21s 6d. Colonial Sugars wore weaker at £46, holders asking £4B 10s. New Zealand Insurance weakened to a sale at 41s. Goldmining shares wore the only bright spot in the market. There was a fairly active demand at firm rates. Consolidated Goldfields were done at 9s and 9s lid, and Blackwaters at 22s 2d. YESTERDAY'S QUOTATIONS.
