SPEEDWAY RACING.

AUCKLAND RECORDS BROKEN. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, Dec. 5. Two local records were broken and two more equalled by members of the visiting team of English broadsiders at Western Springs Speedway tonight. The most successful rider, who broke one record and equalled two, was W. Phillips. In an attempt to lower the one mile record of 77sec. held by T. Earndon, he was two-fifths of a second slow, but later in the race he equalled Farndon’s speed, and in one lap of the same event he also equalled A. Mattson’s lap record of 18 4-ssec.' In covering four laps in 77 sec. from a rolling start in a race he broke the existing race record by twofifths of a second. The other outstanding rider was N. Key, who covered four laps in lmin. 21 1-Ssec., from a standing start, also a record. The track was in excellent order, and the races generally were the fastest ever seen at the track.
