PROFITS ON PETROL.
COMPANIES IN AUSTRALIA. CANBERRA, Dec. 4. An announcement that a Royal Commission will inquire into petrol and oil profits is expected to result from consideration by Cabinet of a report by the Taxation Department on the companies’ operations. One allegation is said to be that some companies derive a profit of 9d a gallon on petrol. The Deptly-Leader of tho Country Party stated in the House of Representatives that one company had escaped taxation to the extent of £360,000 over a period of years.
