NEW RAILWAY LINE.

MUCH work remaining. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Dec. 5. Although it will be some, time before the newly laid portion of the recently opened Stratford-Main Trunk railway will be ready for taking over by the Railway Department, the Railways Board has decided to work goods traffic over the new .route as from Monday, December 12, stated Mr H. H. Sterling, chairman of the board, in a statement to the Press to-day. , , . “Before the new line is ready to be worked as an integral part of the system under the direct control of the board, a considerable amount of work has to be done by the Railway Department at Stratford and Okahukura Junction and there is still much to he done on the Public Works section of the line. It is not, therefore, possible for a regular passenger service to be inaugurated immediately.” In conclusion, Mr Sterling said: 1 cannot too strongly _ emphasise that the completion of this line was regarded by the board as being work that could be justified only if the line when completed, is to l>e assured ot full support by the public, and the board trusts that as the line is now available for the transport of goods the people concerned will see that full possible use is made of it.
