LAST WEEK’S BUSINESS AND PRICES. - Not for many weeks has tho stock and share market been as dull as it was last week. Very littlo buying support was found jn any section, and consequently there was a heavy falling off in turnover, with a marked decline in values. In Christchurch tho business done was lc6s than for any previous week this year. The weakness was most evident in Government securities, which, with the exception of the 5z per cents., were almost totally neglected. The 5j per cents., 1937, sold mostly at £97 10s, the September, 1937, stock receding to £97 at the close of tho week. In the middle of last month they were selling at up to £IOO ss. The 4£ per cent, bonds 1938, declined on sales from £94 10s to £93 103, and tho stocks, 1939 and 1938 were done on Saturday at the latter prico, as against £9B 5s threo weeks ago. Banks wore also a weak market, with a very restricted turnover. Now Zealands, which wero traded early in tho week at 45s 3d and 45s 6d, declined sharply toward the close to 42s 6d, cum dividend of Is 3d a share payable on December 10. The only other business in this section w;as isolated sales of National of New Zealand at 47s 6d. Union of Australia at £7 14s 6d, Commercial of Australia at 14s ljd, and National of Australasia, £5 paid, at £5 6s 6d. Most of the other sections were neglected. Dalgetys improved on sales from £6 13s to £6 15s and £6 19s. Goldsbrough, Morts wero weak, one sale being mado at 21s 3d. New Zealand Insurance eased to a sale at 41s 6d. Auckland Gas were dono at 21s 6d, and Wellington Gas ordinary had a deal at 29s 6d. New Zealand Breweries were weak on sales at 25s 3d, cum dividond. New Zealand Refrigerating, £1 paid, weakened to saleo at 9s 6<l and 9s 3d and 10s paid from 2s lid and 3s to 2s 9d and 2s lOd. In tho shipping section Union Steam, preference, wero easier at 20s 6d, as wero Huddart, Parkers at 26s 6d. There was very little doing in the miscellaneous section. Colonial Sugars sold at £47 15s, £4B ss, £47 10s, £4B and £4B ss. British Tobaccos eased to sales at 30s 6d and 30s. Henry Jones sold at 32s 9d and eased to 32s ex dividend. Electrolytic Zinc, preference, sold at 25s 6d and 25s 3d. Mount Lyells weakened on sales at from 20s 2d down to 19s lid. Goldmining shares were the most active of tho week. Btackwaters sold at 21s to 22e 2d, Alexander contributing at 21s 3d and Waihis at 18s 6d. King Solomons were firm at 2s 3d to &■> sd, as wero Golden Sands at 2s to 2s 3d. SATURDAY’S QUOTATIONS.
