WOODVILLE.
WOODVILLE, Dec. 2. Mrs B. E. Richards and Mr J. E. Richards, of McLean Street, left Woodvillo yesterday for an extended motor tour of tho South Island. The vital statistics for < Woodville district for October and November are as follow, those of October being mentioned first; —Births 4 (4), marriages nil (2), deaths 2 (1). The monthly meeting of the Methodist Church Ladies’ Guild was held on Thursday afternoon under the presidency of Mrs G. Knowles-Smith. After the business matters had been dealt with, the afternoon’s programme was devoted to a “Question Box.” Questions dealing with Church activities and Biblo subjects were fully discussed by the ladies present, and a profitable afternoon was spent. Afternoon tea was served by Misses Worboys and Harding. The Guild is now in recess until February next. Some fifteen years ago, the authorities of tho Holy Trinity Church, Woodville, bought by auction a section opposite the church, as h, vicarage site. The Ladies’ Guild, at the time, commenced a building fund, without which the present building could not have been erected. Mr R, R. Johnston sold the old vicarage for a fair sum, after which a building committee was set up and work was commenced a short time ago to be completed recently. The vicar, Rev. G. W. Davidson, and Mrs Davidson, were given possession of the building on Friday last, and on Tuesday tho blessing of the home took place. The Venerable Archdeacon Mac Lean, of Havelock North, a former vicar of the Woodville parish, was present specially for the purpose. The blessing took he form of prayers at tho entrance, in tho study, that the message of the Gospel might go forth faithfully, inf the bedrooms, that peaceful repose might be found; in the kitchen, that service might be faithful; in the dining room, that blessing might be given to the Giver of all good things; and in the living room, that truo fellowship might abound. During tho afternoon hymns were sung, and Miss E. Shearman gave two vocal solos, and Mrs Jaine gave recitations. A few words of thanks to the Archdeacon were given by Mr E. H. Giles, tho church warden, and at the conclusion of tig ceremony about forty people enjovtd afternoon tea.
