FOXTON, Dec. 2. The friends of Mr T. Wanklyn will regret to learn that he is at present an inmate of the Palmerston North Hospital. A committee meeting of the Foxton Horticultural Society was held to receive the financial statement in connection with the summer show. Mr D. Christie (president) presided. The financial statement disclosed a loss of £6 odd on the exhibition. The president said that the position was very satisfactory in view of the times. A number of -societies in neighbouring towns had decided against a summer show ns they knew they would show a loss. The local society had decided against going into recess and whether or not that had been a wise move was for members to say. Mr Spooner expressed the opinion that flip society had done the right thing by carrying on. \n inter-club croquet match, Foxton v. lanakau. was played on the Levin green on Thursday. The following are the results, Foxton players being mentioned first: —Singles: Mrs Owen 21 v. Mrs Bryant 20; Mrs Parkcs 26 v. Mrs Evans 14. Doubles: Mesdames Owen and Xewth 26 v. Mesdames Bryant and Powell 11: Mesdames Perreau and Bryant 26 v. Mesdames Xees and Evans 16. Yesterday afternoon the first round of the Triangular Shield contest was held at Shannon, The outcome was a win on the day's play for Foxton on the average scores, as well as in the result of their two matches, the aggregates being as follow: Shannon. 4 games, 71 points; Foxton, two games, 49 points; Levin, two games, 43 points. The averages therefore are: Foxton 24j points. Levin 21j, Shannon 17J. The rinks and scores were as follow: —Foxton: Robinson, Hcppner, Woods, Mattar , (skip) 30 v. Shannon: Hyde Collins, Mason. Butt (skip) 22. Foxton: Tawlmi. Christie, Hinds, Roare (skip) 19 v. Shannon: Hook, Butt, Alexander, Clayton I (skip) 17. Levin: Mackav. Kerslakc, Cameron Bull (skip) 15 v. Shannon: Todd. Hook, Gray, Morgan (skip) 21. Levin: Percy, Carter, Clark, Langellan (skipl 28 v. Shannon: Aim, Hcnsman, Blaikie, Roach (skip) 11.
