AEROPLANE CRASHES
ACCIDENT AT MANAWATU PAGEANT. SQUADRON-LEADER McGREGOtt HURT. During the course of tho balloon busting contest at the Manawatu Aero Club’s pageant at Milson this afternoon, the Manawatu Club’s Moth ’plane piloted by Squadron-Leader McGregor, tho well-known airman, who is pilot instructor to the club, crashed while flying low and the pilot sustained serious head injuries, the front portion of the ’plane being wrecked. The accident occurred at tho height of the display and was witnessed by thousands of spectators. SquadronLeader McGregor had previously carried out several stunting exhibitions and was chasing a balloon in the paddock to the north adjoining the main aerodrome when his machine nosedived into the ground. The Free Ambulance was requisitioned and the airman was conveyed to the Palmerston North Hospital.
