NEW FITZHERBERT BRIDGE.

PROGRESS TOWARDS CONSTRUCTION.

With the driving of the final test pile this week in the bed of the Manawatu River, activities in connection with determining the nature of the foundations available for the new Fitzherbert bridge are now finished. Three test piles have been driven to depths varying round 40ft., and it is reported that a firm bed was encountered, it being very hard in places. Plans nearing completion can now be finalised with the information which has been secured, and it is understood that they will be forwarded to the Public Works Department for approval at the earliest opportunity.
