CESAREWITCH STAKES. Received October 13, 9.20 a.m. LONDON, Oct. 12. The Cesarewitch Stakes, 21 miles, resulted:—Nitischin 1, Chelmarsh 2, Sandwich 3. There were 26 starters. Won by three lengths; two lengths between second and third. SWEEPSTAKE WINNERS. As stated in the “Standard” yesterday, Mr J. E. Cornes, of Mount Eden, Auckland, drew Sandwich in an Irish sweepstake. The holder of the ticket on the winning horse will receive £30,000, on the second £15,000 and on the third £IO.OOO. The latter sum will thus be received by Mr Cornes, plus exchange, which will amount to about £IOOO. Mr Cornes. who is a well-known business man of Mount Eden, holds his ticket in partnership with his son, Mr J. W. B. Cornes, of Mount Roskill. Another Auckland resident who drew a horse in the sweepstake is Francis M. Ritchie, who lives close to Mr Cornes. The horse drawn by Master Ritchie was Bonny Brighteyes, and as it ran unplaced, he will receive £660, plus exchange.
