CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNEY. j TIMARU, Oct. 12. In the semi-finals of the New Zealand women’s golf championship tlie ■ match between Miss Rutherford (Hawarden) and Mrs H. Collinson (Manawatu) was keenly fought all the way. The players were equally matchI e<l.' Miss Rutherford frequently outdrove her opponent, who was not as safe with her second shots and not as accurate with her mashie as she has been on previous occasions. MRS TEMPLER’S GOOD LEAD. Per Press Association. TIMARU, Oct. 13. Overnight rain left the Highfield links in a slightly heavier state than yesterday for the final of the Dominion women’s golf championship between Mrs J- C. ' Templer (AVaimate) and Miss B. Rutherford (Hawarden). Keen interest was displayed, and_ at the end of the morning’s play Airs lempler was four up. In the early stages Mrs Templer gave a rather indifferent display, while ner approach shots and putting both proved erratic. Mrs Templer improved and showed fine form to assume a six-up lead at the eleventh hole. Miss Rutherford then rallied to win back three holes, but lost the eighteenth, giving her opponent a lead of four with which to commence the afternoon round.
