CHECKING SPEEDING MOTORISTS.
DANGER AT SCHOOLS. The activities of Mr W. Berry, group traffic inspector, in regard to the checking of motorists speeding past schools in the district were outlined in the following report which was presented at yesterday’s meeting of the Manawatu County Council. “From instructions received I checked motorists passing the Newbury and Tiakitaliuna schools on Thursday, September 22, with the result tiiat 29 names were taken. The regulations allow a speed of 15 miles per hour past a school between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., and on the day in question only the names of those motorists who exceeded 25 miles pcr hour past the schools were taken. Tho checks were made when the children at the Tiakitaliuna School were coming out for lunch, and at 3 p.m. a.t tho Newbury School, when the children were leaving for home.” 'The councillors expressed satisfaction at tho steps being taken to stop speeding past schools.
