CONFERENCE AT AVELLINGTON MINISTERS AND CONTROL BOARDS.

(Bv Telegraph.—Special to Standard.) AVELLINGTON, Oct, 12. A definite move to establish trade between New Zealand and the Far East was made to-day, when % conference was held between Hons. G. AV. Forbes, J. G. Coates and K. Masters and the representatives of the four Export Control Boards —Meat, Dairy Produce, Fruit and Honey. The Prime Minister said this afternoon that the conference had been a most satisfactory one and it was hoped that definite results would follow. Mr Forbes indicated that control of direct shipping was one of the necessities, aftnougii he made it clear that there was no intention that the State should institute such a service. “This is a start,” said the Prime Minister, who added that the Government was very serious in its determination to see fresh markets developed wherever an opportunity offered. The Minister of Industries and Commerce said the boards would meet in conference to further consider the matter. The chairman of the Meat Board, Mr D. Jones, would bo the convener. Mr Forbes said that while he realised there were practical difficulties. in the way, he and his colleagues were of the opinion that every possibility of opening fresh channels of trade should be examined. As far as increased trade with the East was concerned, they had obtained a vast amount of information regarding the possibilities of trade and tins had been furnished to the Export Control Boards. Now that the preliminary conference had been heid, it was for the Control Boards to follow up the matter, Mr Forbes added. .
