GOLD-MINING OPERATIONS.

EFFORT FOR REVIVAL. Per Press Association. TE AROHA, Oct. 10. Tho Under-Socretarv of the Mines Department, Mr A. H. Kimbell, accompanied by several local departmental officers, conferred to-day with a large number of prospectors and others .interested in gold-mining in the To Arnlia hills. The conference was for the purpose of clearing tip a misunderstanding with regard to the department’s attitude toward ail effort to bring about the revival of gold-mining in the district.

Mr Kimbell undertook to have investigations made with a view to employing, if warranted, thirty or forty linen, and outlined the recoin menda- | thins he was prepared to make which gave a. measure of the assistance required. Mr J. W. Smith, mining supervisor, said that there were promising areas on the west side of the mountain, but titles were held for the best of those. The recommendation of the National Expenditure Commission that either the Thames or the Waihi School of Mines lie closed lias caused deep concern at Te Aroha. At a. meeting representative of the Te Aroha. Prospecting Association, the Chamber of Commerce, and the Borough Council, attended I>v Mr A. H. Kimbell, Under-Seeretnr.v of Mines, a resolution was passed urging the Mines Department to retain both schools as .it was most important at the present time that no restriction be placed oil the facilities they offer.
