ITALIAN WHEAT.
RECORD HARVEST LIKELY. Signor Mussolini’s aim of makingf Italy independent of grain imports bids fair to bo realised when tha wheat crop is harvested this year. 1 The Italian Prime Minister an-* nounces that tho harvest will reach 276,000,000 bushels, the largest in, Italy’s history and an increase of 250 per cent, over pre-war totals. The average yield is expected to be 22 bushels to the acre, as compared, with 15 bushels 20 years ago. It is claimed that this result is not due to an increase ip. acreage but to more intensive and scientific cultivation of the grain under the spur of Signotf Mussolini’s “battle of grain” scheme.
