BANK MANAGER RETIRING.
MR G. E. HAGGITT. Forty-four years of service with the Bank of Australasia in New Zealand will be terminated by Mr G. E. Haggitfc, manager of the Palinerston North branch, when he retires at the beginning of November. He has not yet decided where he will make his home, but intends to travel first. Mr A. G. Lawson, manager of the Masterton branch, and formerly of Feilding, will succeed Mr Haggitt, and Mr 0. C. Ruby, manager of the Dannevirke branch, will become manager at Masterton.
•Mr Haggitt entered the service of the bank as a junior at Dunedin and steadily rose until he assumed the responsibilities of managership. From Dunedin he went as teller successively to Gore (seven years), Wanganui (one year) and Palmerston North (four years). Then on promotion to accountant, he was transferred to Feeding for four years and Napier for one year. His first managership was at Waipawa (seven years), then Feilding (six years) and finally Palmerston North, where he has been manager for the past 14 years.
