SHORT NOTICE.
OBJECTION RAISED. Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, Sept. 28. The practice of house surgeons at the hospital in resigning at short notice was criticised at to-day's meeting of the North Canterbury Hospital Board. In a letter to the board dated to-day, Dr. William Rothwell said: "I desire to tender my resignation as house surgeon to the board, and I will be obliged if this is accepted for the end of this month. I regret I am quite unable bo offer a more formal notification."
“There have been three or four similar resignations recently,” said the secretary, Mr W. S. Wharton. “Apparently we have no redress.” The chairman, Mr H. J. Otley, said that it was most unsatisfactory. The work of the hospital had to b© carried on, and the medical superintendent was left short-staffed. Similar trouble had been experienced in Wellington. “These young men decline to sign a contract'” Mr Otley added. “They ought to give a month’s notice.” The resignation was referred to a sub-committee with power to act.
