ROUGH CROSSING.
SYDNEY, Sept. 27. The New Zealand racehorses Admiral Drake and Garter Knight, with a number of Dominion sportsmen for the spring carnival, had a rough crossing of the Tasman aboard the Alaunganui. Garter Knight, a flighty colt, was injured while struggling to escape. When , the vessel was rolling he tried to climb over the rail of the loosebox and struck himself. He was placed under a veterinary surgeon upon arrival. Admiral Drake was transhipped for Alelbourne. Dominion. owners and trainers here are pleased that the Stevens Government has abolished the winning bets tax and has substituted a tax on bookmakers’ turnover.
