Authority to issue building permits in the Town Board’s area was delegated to the Manawatu County Council. It was stated that residents who graze stock on the roads do so at their own risk, as the board has not thrown the roads open. The roadman reported having carted 15 yards of metal during the month, also having carted spoil for the flower beds in the Memorial Square, and planting the beds with fresh plants. In addition the usual routine work "was done. Mr Teaz was appointed works overseer for the ensuing three months. Accounts totalling £SO were passed for payment. Hiking is becoming very popular around Rongotea. Last week-end, in spite of threatening weather, a party of keen hikem left Rongotea at 7 a.m., motored to Tangimoana and, leaving the cars at “Punga Lodge,” set out via the sea coast to walk to Foxton. The beach always gives plenty of 6copo for nature study, with its shells, and varied animate and inanimate objects, as well as the opportunity to try one’s skill at cooking by a huge fire, with the accompaniments of wind and sand storms. Delicacies were roasted and eaten with the flavour of sand. The party arrived in Foxton shortly after mid-day and spent the night there. The return journev was begun next morning, and on arrival at Tangimoana Mrs A. D. Scott entertained the hikers in a delightfully hospitable manner.
