MAYOR OF NEW YORK. “He stammered and stuttered. He made incoherent replies. He had no defence. It was conclusively proved that he enriched hiiiiself as a result of holding the Mayoralty.” This is Mr S. Seabury’s comment. He is the man who investigated Mayor Walker, and lie highly praises Governor Roosevelt for his trial of the “guilty and recreant Mayor, who lias resigned, but states that he will seek re-election.” The entire United States nation lias stopped talking about tho > Presidency to discuss Mr' Walker’s predicament, and what influence his coming campaign for re-election may have upon the national situation, says a New York message. Mr Seabury quoted a long list of charges which lie declared Walker could not deny. Walker sponsored franchise, lie said, then drew cheques on banks where lie had no accounts, and some kind friend immediately mado them good.. A sum of £50,000 was involved in a “plum” which he got through the friendly offices of Paul Block, famous newspaper publisher, whose son suggested that it would be nice if his boy friend, Jimmy, had some easy money.
