SEASON OF THRILLING DRAMA

Roland Pert wee’s exciting- play “Interference” will be the Palmerston North Operatic Society’s first attempt at a really dramatic production. With performers of considerable experience before 'the footlights, and Mr F. Cousins’s skill as a producer, there is every justification for anticipating a crowded auditorium at the Opera House during the approaching season of threo nights—September 22, 23 and 24. Tho rehearsals for “Interference” are exceptionally promising, and theatregoers will he wise if they hook as soon as the plans arc available. The proceeds fi#m the season are to he devoted to the Central Relief Fund. Gracing tho cast of the play, which opens in tho consulting room of a fashionable London physician and ends in the same setting on a tragic note, aro Mr M. 11. Oram, Mrs L. Potter, Misses U. Hancock, E. Nathan, M. Mortland, Scott, and Messrs J. F. Tasker, T. M. N. Rodgers, C. N. Rabone, D. Stonchouse, E. G. Spraggon, A. Pizzey and Bates. Mr Oram, whose work in “Loyalties” was clever and of an outstanding evenness, has another part to test- his vertility and powers of restraint. Miss Hancock is playing a role that should also test her versatility. It is not an attractive part, but. it is the ono that can ho made outstanding and Miss Hancock has the necessary talent to accomplish that. A difficult task is sot Miss M. Mortland, who gave considerable promiso in a minor role in “Tho Arcadians” last year. Sho takes the part of Lady Marlay, who so nearly wrecks her own happiness and that of her husband and shares in a number of tensely dramatic scenes. Mrs Potter is well-known for her producing and acting ability, and an old favourite in Miss W. Scott will make a welcome reappearance as Mrs Florence Rookc, sister of Sir John Marlay. Miss Nahtan, who. was oustanding in “Loyalties,” has an interesting part as Barabar, Sir JohnW niece, and plays opposite Mr Seeker (Douglas Holder, “of tho United Press Bureau), the singing and acting hero of the November musical comedies. A large committee of ladies is busy with day sales and preferential reservation is Monday, September 19.
