(From Our Own Correspondent.) LINTON, Sept. 15. At tile last meeting of the Miniature Rifle Club the scores were as follow: S. Free, 68—65—133; M. Rix. 66—64 130; M. Wilson, 65—65 —130; G. A meeting of the Hall Committee was held on Tuesday evening, the following being present: Messrs G. H. Currin, D. Currin, 0. and R. Batchelar, 1. Lynch, J. L. Nash, 11. Rix and L. Ballinger. It was decided to purchase 4 dozen cups and saucers and spoons, and also sufficient timber to construct 12 forms. The chairman was instructed to interview the bank manager in connection with the release of the guarantors of the overdraft. Several accounts were passed for payment. At the next meeting of the Farmers Union, Mr Waters, chief engineer of the Power Board, will give an address on electricity. . , , The monthly meeting of th Womens Institute was held on Wednesday afternoon, Mrs Nash presiding over a very good attendance. Several members of the Aokautere branch were present and were responsible for a most enjoyable afternoon’s entertainment, including a demonstration by Mrs Scott of wool-ciderdown-makLng, which proved of great interest and was very much appreciated. A vocal duet, “Rendezvous,” by Miss Chrissie Field and Miss Vowell, received welldeserved applause, as also did a son" “An Old-Fashioned Town,” by Mrs Riddle, and a piano duet by Mrs Riddle and Miss Nancy Field. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded the visitors to which Mrs Field responded. The flour bag competition, in which there was an excellent display of useful and really beautiful articles, was won by Mrs L. Craw (breakfast set) 1, and Miss V. Sutherland 2 and 3 (child’s Irocks and duchess set). The hostesses for the afternoon were Mesdames Kaye, Terry, Gooch and Miss Sutherland. Mrs D. Currin presented a report of the group meeting held at Shannon recently at which she was a delegate. Mrs Nash and Mrs MacMahon were appointed delegates to the half-yearly council meeting at Woodville on October 11. It was decided to donate £1 to the federation. The singing of the National Anthem concluded a very pleasant afternoon. Mrs Irvine and Miss Irvine are visiting friends in Wellington. Mrs L. Ballinger has returned from a short visit to Napier. Miss E. Green, of Sydney, is the guest of Mrs J. L. Nash.
