MASKED THIEVES.
TORTURE AGED COUPLE.
Two masked thieves aroused an aged couple named Peret in the village of Tlionon-les-Bains (France) and demanded, at the point of a revolver, that they should liand over their savings. Tho victims, in order to safeguard their total hoard of £l6, replied that it was all in tho bank. The bandits bound the couple to bedposts, applied a (red-hot poker to the soles of their feet, stabbed Peret in the chest, and then slashed the feet of both with a dagger. Peret and his wife were semiconscious at the end of three horn's of unavailing torture, and their agonised cries brought the help of neighbours. Two arrests have been made. The police allege that one of those arrested is the owner of the couple’s house.
