FARMERS PRESSING FOR SETTLE-

MENT.

LONDON, Sept, 15. The political correspondent of tho Daily Express suggests that the exchange of Notes between London and Dublin on the land annuities dispute will possibly lead to a renewal of personal contact. Mr de Valera will pass through London on Sunday en route to Geneva, and may arrive earlier to see the Prime Minister and the Dominions Secretary. It is known that Irish farmers' are increasingly pressing for a settlement.

MYSTERY OVER RELATIONS.

The mystery of Mr de Valera’s relations with tho Irish Republican Army is a factor o'f first importance to tho future of Irish Free State politics, according to those who have recently studied the position there. It is asserted that the youthful leaders of this new I.R.A. have sympathies with Russian Communism and, that it is, therefore, unbelievable that Mr do Valera, whose religious faith is profound, will identify himself with the ultimate aims of this organisation (says a London message). Possibly because of the extremism of the new 1.R.A., the old 1.R.A., which went into retirement with the signing of the treaty with Great Britain, has returned to tho stage, and should prove to be a moderating influence.
