ECONOMY URGED.
WELLINGTON, Sept. 16. Representations that had been made to tho Government for the closing down of the Town Planning Department were approved at a meeting yesterday of the executive of the Associated Chambers of Commerce. It was reported that a letter had been written to the Prime Minister stating that, despite what was practia cessation of activities under the Town Planning Department, there was practically no variation in the sums which would be recommended in the Estimates for appropriation to meet the expenses of the department. It had been credibly reported that tho Town Planning Board had virtually nothing to engage its time, and in view of this, and the fact that the retention of tire office of Director of Town Planning was an extravagance under tho present conditions, it was urged that tho department be closed down as soon as possible.
