YESTERDAY’S BUSINESS AND

PRICES.

A fairly active domand was in evidence in the Wellington stock and share market yesterday, but, excopt in a few cases, prices were inclined to be easier. There was a lengthy list of selling quotations, indicating that holders were out for pro-fit-taking. In most cases, however, fairly wl , c ,l° mar £ins stood between buyers and sellers.

Ihe inquiry for Government stocks has revived this week and bids yesterday were freer. Thero were three sales of 5£ per cent, stock, September, 1937, one at £99 2s 6d, and the others at £99 3s 9d. 'lhe 4j per cent, stock, 1958, wus done late on Wednesday > at £95. Banks wero quieter than of late. New Zealands had sales at 48s and CBs 3d, and more wero wanted at the former price. Iho long-term mortgage shares were steady at 29s 6d. Commercial of Australia wero 3d easier at 14s 6d, and Union of Australia dropped to £7 8s 6d, sellers £7 12s.

South British Insurance wore firm, a sale being made at 58s 6d. There were closing sellers at that price, but buyers offered 58s.

k° ar Meats hardened up to sale at 355, holders asking 36s at the close. N.Z. Refrigerating, 10s paid, were done at 3s lOd. Wilson’s Cement wore very firm. Sales were made at 33s 6d and 33s 4id. There wero closing bids at 33&, but holders asked 345. N.Z. Drugs were firm at 58s 9d, sellers 61s 6d. Sharlands, ordinary and preference, were steady at I6s. YESTERDAY’S QUOTATIONS. WOOL SALES.

KEEN COMPETITION IN BRISBANE. BRISBANE, Sept. 15. At the wool sales to-day 13,000 bales were offered and a good clearance was made. French, Japanese and German competition was keen. Bradford was seeking suitable lots. Tho market maintained its opening strength. Tho top prices were greasy. 15id; scoured, 22id.

VALUES IN ADELAIDE,

ADELAIDE, Sept. 15. Thirty thousand bales were auctioned at tho opening of tho wool sales. Tho attendance of buyers was the largest for years, French bidding predominating. Prices were on a par with those recently ruling at Sydnoy, greasy making 13id. Values for all good fleece wools were 25 per cent, above the June figures, while skirtings, bellies and summer lambs wero 30 per cent, higher.
