NATIONAL SHOW AND SALES

MANAWATU STOCK PROMINENT.

Breeders and buyers from nil parts of the North Island were present at the 10th national Jersey show and sale which opened at Claudelands on Tuesday (states the Waikato Times). A very fine selection of bulls, reared by leading breeders from practically every dairying district in the North Island, and Nelson in the South Island, was catalogued, and met with good demand, tho prices realised being excellent considering tho times. Bidding was brisk throughout the day, very few animals making less than 20 guineas. The first 30 sold averaged 30 2-3 guineas, while the 56 bulls which changed hands averaged 44J guineas. The top price was 300 guineas, paid by the agents for a southern buyer, for Ivondale McAlister, a fine four-year-old by Ivondale Highland Chief Woodlands Felice. This animal is a son of tho phenomenal Jersey cow, Woodlands Felice, world’s champion butterfat Jersey cow over all ages. JUDGING RESULTS.

Prior to the sale a judging; competition was held, in which a number of Manawatu breeders figured, the results wherein they figured being as under: Four-year-old bulls and over.—Messrs R. L. Horn and Son’s (Ohau) Ku Ku Golden Hope 3. , ~, Two-year-old bulls.—Mr J, A. Mitchell s (Longbura). “Santa Rosa Prince,’’ 1; Mr C. G. C. Dermer's (Feilding “Waipiko Coronado,” 2; Mr A. E. Sandilands’s (Feilding) “Benoni’s. Starlight,” 3. Yearling bulls (divided into four classes) : —B class : Mr J. A. Mitchell’s Santa Rosa Besses Coy 1, Mrs A. Banks and Son s (Feilding) Woodstock Stability 3. C. class : Mr J. A. Mitchell’s Ottawa 2. THE CHAMPIONSHIPS.

On Wednesday morning the senior, two-year-old and junior championship classes were judged, and grand championship and reserve championship of the show awarded. The following were the results of the judging: Senior Championship (three and tour-year-old bulls). —Mr J. S. Jones’s (Bell Block, Taranaki) Sybil’s Volunteer. Reserve: Mr F. Phillips’s (Otorohanga) Sunday’s Handsome Prince (July 2, 1927). Two-vear-old Championship.—Mr J. A. Mitchell’s Santa Rosa Prince. Reserve: Mr C G. C. Dermer’s Waipiko Coronado. Junior Championship.—Mr J. A. Mitchell’s Santa Rosa Besses Coy. Reserve: Mr J. S. Jones’s Malaprop Sybil. Grand Championship of Show (Wright, Stephenson Challenge Cup).—Mr J. S. Jones’s Sybil’s Volunteer (imp). Reserve: Mr J. A. Mitchell’s Santa Rosa Besses grand championship and yearling group cups were presented this morning to the winners by Mr C. G. C. Dernier, president of the New Zealand Jersey Cattlo Breeders’ Association.
