DISTRESSING FATALITY.
CHILD DROWNED IN POOL.
DISCOVERY AT SANDON
A distressing tragedy involving the death of a girl aged two and a half years occurred at Sandon yesterday afternoon. Mrs L. Richards who, with her husband and two children, one an infant, had removed from Bulls to Sandon only a few days ago, was attending to her household duties when she noticed the absence of the elder child. She commenced a search and in an adjoining section a doll was observed floating on the surface of a pool of water about 4ft deep and Bft square. Mrs Richards immediately plunged in and, groping on the floor of the pool, found the body of her child and brought it to the side. Every effort was made to apply rescusitation, the office staff of the Manawatu County Council and other neighbours being called. A doctor was also sent for but could not arrive until about an hour later, when lie could only pronounce life extinct, despite the splendid efforts which were made to restore the child. Mr and Mrs Richards have lived in the Bulls district for many years and although they are new residents of Sandon they' have received the sympathy of the whole township, wliicli was shocked by the sad occurrence.
