WOMEN’S INSTITUTE.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) TAIKOREA, Sept. 13.

The usual monthly meeting of the Taikorea Women’s Institute was held in the Coronation Hall. Mrs J. L. Mudford presided over a large attendance. After a great deal of business had been disposed of, a voto of sympathy was accorded Airs Leach and Miss E. Sexton in their recent bereavement. A minute’s silence was observed, those present standing to mark their sympathy. Misses lone Heliir and L. Gray gave a skilful demonstration of the making of seagrass stools which was greatly appreciated. Miss G. Smith took first prize in tho competition, ‘‘best article made from a flourbag.” The prize-winning article was a well worked apron. Mrs J. Mildford awarded the prize. The serving of a dainty afternoon tea and the singing of tho National Anthem brought a pleasant afternoon to a close.

A group meeting of surrounding Women’s Institutes will bo hold in the Hall on September 20th. A largo and representative gathering is expected. It is hoped that all local institute members, as well as those who havo not yet joined, will bo present, •All exhibition of handcrafts will be arranged by members of various institutes. Members of tho Taikorea Institute will present a playette. Spring weather is being experienced and farmers are taking advantage of it to proceed with tho numerous outdoor jobs that are ready, ploughing and top-dressing being chief among them. The warm spell is having an advantageous effect upon the dairy herds. The milk supply is still increasing and the third assistant at tho Taikorea Dairy Company's factory commences work this week. With the close of the football season and the approach of fine days, thoughts turn to summer sports. Work has been commenced on the Taikorea Sports Club’s tennis court and it should be ready for play by the time longer evenings are assured. Arrangements are also in hand for cricket. Tho local ping pong team mot a visiting team from Rongotea, Taikorea having tho better of the play, and winning 38 games as against 26 for Rongotea. During tho evening a dainty supper was served by the ladies, thanks being rendered by tho captain of the Rongotea team. The scores were us follow, Taikorea players being mentioned first:—D.
