CHARGE OF THEFT.

Per Press Association. WELLINGTON. Sept. 13. Charles Victor Birch, aged 39, wns charged to-day before Mr E. Page. S.M., with the theft as a servant of £l3Ol 13s 6d from the Carpet Import Company, Ltd., and also with failing to account for £26, thereby committing theft. The police asked for a further remand till to-morrow, saying they would then be ready to go on with the case. The amount mentioned in the second charge would be included in the first. In granting a remand, the Magistrate refused an application for further suppression of the name, saying that in view of the amount involved he was not prepared to make such an order. Bail was renewed in £250. ]
