PAHIATUA.

PAHIATUA, Aug. 23.

Mrs A. G. Pitt, of Palmerston North, and a former resident of Pahiatua, has been visiting Pahiatua for a few davs. Mrs L. Vile, of Tararna Street, spent tlio past week as the guest of Mr and Mrs R. ('road, Ballance.

A fourbal! bogey competition was played among the ma!o members of the Pahiatua Golf Club during the week-end and tho winners proved to bo F. P. Nelson and G. G. Nelson who wero 6 up on bogey, a splendid performance. ,7. G. Swainson and P. Nelson wero second, ono up. The Mrs Matthews ladies' rose bowl competition is nearing completion. In tho semi-finals, Miss Shekleton and Miss L. Nelson will play Miss Badger and Miss Ross, and Mise Boyd and Miss Arrow will play Misses J. and B. Swainson.

About 15 members of St. Paul’s Presbyterian Bible Class entertained the Nireuha friends to a Scottish performance last night A feature was tho Scottish broth which was handed round early in tho programme, as the night was cold.. Interspersed with games, tho following programme was presented: Scottish songs, under tho baton of Mr A. J. Fairweather; a plavotte, the parts being taken by Messrs Sutherland and Priest; violin solo, by Mr Fairweather, who also won tho prize in the parcel game. Mr C, Davies made a very efficient M.C., while Miss Swanney and Mrs Fairweather acted as accompanistes. Mr J. A. Baylise, of Ballance, who was for many years overseer for the Pahiatua County Council, met with a serious accident tho other day. While ho was heading off a beast the fionee ho was riding stumbled and tho ridor was unseated. He was dragged somo distance, in the course of which ho was kicked about the head and face. Mr Baylies was removed to his home. His condition is now reported to show some improvement. Mr J. H. Windle, chairman of directors, presided over tho annual meeting of the Ballance Valley Co-operative Dairy Co., Ltd., held in the factory building yesterday at noon. Tho attendance of shareholders was only fair. The annual report read: “A considerable portion of our cheese still remains unsold, and has been valued on a conservative basis. A further por lb buttorfafc has been distributed to suppliers in July and your directors recommend an additional 3d per lb to be paid after the annual meeting and hope to supplement this by a further payment when all cheese realised.” Tho retiring directors, Messrs J. H. Windle and P. McCarthy, wore reelected unopposed. Mr L. D. Lovelock was reappointed auditor. Air L. H. Holdaway thought that three directors, instead of five, wero sufficient to run the company. It would mean a saving to the company and a saving of time to tho directors. Ho for ono would be prepared to stand down from the directorate. The secretary said it would be necessary to chango the articles first and two extraordinary meetings would need to be called. Perhaps instead of. reducing the size of tho board the five directors could depute any three to act and do the bulk of the business only calling on the full board for urgent matters. Mr J. If. Windle, at tho subsequent meeting of directors, was re-elected chairman for tho ensuing year. A meeting of creditors in the bankrupt estate of Cecil Frederick Green, firewood I merchant, of Hamua, was held in the office | of the Deputy Official Assignee (Air J. D. Wilson) yesterday morning. Only two creditors were present, Messrs J. A. Mclnnes and R. Pilkinton. The unsecured debts toI tailed £BB 2s 3d, the assets £37 10s 4d. leaving a deficiency of £SO 11s lid. Secured creditors: N.Z. Guarantee Corporation on ! Court judgment, £34 12s 3d and £BO, j security being a motor truck £120; surplus !£5 7s 4d. Other assets: Book debts £5 3s, tools £3, furniture £2O, bicycle £4. The assignee said that tho book debts would I not realise anything and bankrupt was entitled to his tools and furniture, so that there was really only the bicycle to realise upon as an asset. He did not think there would be any surplus even for unsecured creditors when the truck was sold as its full value had been placed upon it by the guaranteed creditor.
