(From Our Own Correspondent). SANDON, Aug. 23. The baby carnival organised by the Sarnlon sub-branch of the Plunkct Society was brought to a closo on Friday night. The Public Hall was packed to tho doors and an enjoyable musical programme was provided by tho sohool children in the early part and followed by tho Marton Merrymakers’ Company. All tho items were well received. The voting for tho baby carnival closed at 9 o’clock and the result was announced by Mr J. 11. Perron a few minutes later, as follows: Farmers (Baby Vile), 1: School (Baby Kdwards) 2: "Sports (Buby Eglinton) 3. The result was greeted with hearty applause. .Mrs J. 11. Perrett (president of the sub-branch) expressed the thanks of the executive to all who had assisted in making the carnival a success. I lie amount collected, £ll6, was much more than was anticipated. Mrs Perrett specially thanked the parents who had allowed their children to he nominated. and then fastened a gold bangle on the right arm of each of the babies. A baridsomo bouquet, made by Mrs Cossum. was handed to Mrs Perrett by Baby Vile. At the close of the programme Mr Perrett thanked the visitors for providing a musical treat and the sentiment was expressed with the singing of “For They are Jolly Good Fellows. Mr J. M. Orouchcr thanked the mouthers of the Sports Baby Committee for their effort and said tho carnival had brought, aliout a good man.v_of the old-time social functions. Messrs Ken Vile. 1. Kdwards and C. Eglinton also returned thanks for the support of the committees iu charge of the carnival. A dainty supper was provided by tile ladies for liie visitors and members of the committees.

A few friends gathered at the school on Thursday afternoon to say “goodbye” to Miss Day, who has resigned. Mr G. T. Francis expressed the regret felt by the children at losing Miss Day. Fay Butler then made a few remarks on behalf of tho children and asked Miss Day to accept a handsome cake stand. Mr E. J. Bowater (chairman of the committee) said that parents were sorry Miss Day was leaving the school, and wished her a long life of happiness. Miss Day thanked the’children for the gift. During the afternoon the children provided a short programme of musical and elocutionary items.
