USE OF DOMINION TIMBER.
DELEGATION’S BIG MISSION
Per Press Association
INVERCARGILL, Aug. lb. Mr It Baucliop, who with Mr J. It. Entrican, State Forest products engineer, leaves by the Tamaroa for England to finalise, if possible, the negotiations entered into with an English firm for tho supply of a large quantity of beech for motor body building, was met this afternoon by tho Sawmillers Guild, who wished him bon voyage and success in his important mission. Almost all the sawmilling interests in Southland were represented and millers from Otago were also present. “There is justification for our feeling that at no previous time have prospects been so bright for a fillip being given to the sawmilling industry in Otago and Southland,” said Mr D. J. Wesney, who presided. “We all hope that the order will be secured and that it will be but the forerunner of a prosperous business for the millers and in creased employment for the timber worker. It is not so much a question of money as of the re-establishment of the industry.” Mr W. Grieve, who dealt principally with tho use of beech for motor bodybuilding, said that no man was more sympathetic towards New Zealand than Sir William Morris, and he felt sure that if representations were made to him by the delegation he would give every consideration to the use of beech in his factories. The conservator of Stato forests, Mr N. J. Dolaniore, assured the millers of his department’s interest and cooperation.
