INCOME TAX.
PAYMENT BY INSTALMENTS. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Aug. 18. The immediate response by income taxpayers to the facilities afforded for payment of the tax in instalment is regarded as very satisfactory. The Prime Minister, Mr Forbes, stated today that during the first month they had been on issue certificates to the value of £32,000 had been purchased. The revenue expected from the income tax was stated by Hon. V. Downie Stewart last session to be estimated tentatively at £3,500,000.
