PARENTS' DAY. The annual Parents’ Day at Lytton .Street School was observed yesterday, together with Arbor Day, which was iittiiigl.v celebrated by appropriate lessons and the planting <> about 50 trees by the pupils ol .-standard vr. .., , From an early hour parents visitect the school to inspect the display of work which was arranged round the walls and on tables in each room the excellence of much of the work being generally admired. In the afternoon, in the presence of the pupils anil .1 largo assemblage of parents, Mr Jas. Penney, chairman of the School Committee, addressed the children on Aie meaning of Arbor Day, following which each pupil in the upper class was invited to plant a tree. In raise funds for the improving of the school grounds, a ladies’ committee of the Parents’ Association conducted a stall which did very good business and it was expected that the sum required to cnrrv the work out would be iortlicoming. A small stall run bv a party of girl pupils disposed of many little articles, the proceeds amounting to After the tree planting, the children plaved games which were watched bv some of the parents, and otheia made an inspection of the school work. The observation of Parents Daylias been popularly adopted by the parents of children attending the school and the display of work gives a very accurate insight of the careful tuition the children are receiving from the teachers at Lytton Street School under the direction of Mr M. C. Wilson, headmaster. LADIES’ GOLF. The following is the draw for a C grade match which will he played by the Feilding Ladies’ Golf Club to.-mor-row:—.Miss Booth v. Miss Tolley, Mrs Lange v. The following ladies' hockey team has been selected to represent Feilding in the match against Manawatu for tire McKelvie Cup at Feilding on Saturday:—Misses E. Rankin, D. Pengellv, M. Reid C. Sanson, V. Clare, F. Hayward, B. Dewe, E. Hill, F. Mclntosh. B. Bridge, 13. Reeves; reserves. Misses D. V orslold and M. Anderson. NOTES. Mr V. Wallis, of Feilding, has received notice that lie has secured the New Zealand Hockey Referees’ Association badge and a seat on the Dominion examination board. Mr Wallis sat at the recent examinations for referees and obtained, with another entrant, the highest marks between Wellington and Auckland. GIPSY DANCE. A Cinev dance is to bo held in the Drill Hall, Feilding. to-morrow evening in aid of the parish funds. A strong committee Has made elaborate preparations and ati attractive programme is assured.
