(From Our Own Correspondent). OXAKI, July 27. An inquest was hold at tho residence of Mr S. Morgan, of Otaki railway, yesterday, concerning tho death of tho son of Mr and Mrs D. Enwright, who was found doad in bed on Monday morning'. Airs Enwright, suid the child had always been in good health. On Snuday tho child was put to bed in a perambulator at about 8.30 p.m. At about 3 o’clock in tho morning tho child awoko and sho gave it a drink. Sho then went off to sleep with the child beside her. On awakening at 7 a.m. sho had found a blanket over the child’s head, and tho child dead. Dr. D. S. Alilno said ho was of tho opinion that death was duo to asphyxia. A verdict was returned in accordance with tho medioal evidence. At about 7 o’clock on Alonday evening the siren was sounded, tho alarm being duo to an outbreak at Airs Batten’s residence in Rangiuru Road. It was practically subdued before the fireman arrived and they completed tho job. A meeting of the Rugby Council was held at Levin last evening when Punaliou’s protest against Otaki playing Leo. Barrett in Saturday’s match was considered. It was decided to write to tho manager of tho Alaori team and ascertain tho day of Barrett’s arrival in tho district, and also to write to the New Zealand Union to ascertain if ho were oligiblo to play if still a member of the Southern team. Until replies aro received tho matter will be left in abeyance. Punahou wroto claiming the championship on the completion of the second round, but this was not supported. A motion was moved that Otaki juniors ho fined for not playing their match with Paraparnumu on Saturday 'hut an amendment that thoy bo reprimanded was carried on the casting vote of tho chairmnn.
